Post and rail is usually used where horses are kept, as the fencing offers a safe barrier for the horses to lean against. The posts and rails are available in both tantalised and pressure creosoted treatment.

Cleft Chestnut Posts and Chestnut Rail in combination are ideal for livestock fencing - Chestnut contains more timber of a durable quality than an oak of the same dimensions, and young Chestnuts have proved more durable than oak for woodwork that has to be partly in the ground, such as stakes and fencing.
